Why the Minnesota Timberwolves Should Do It
If the Minnesota Timberwolves have the chance to acquire Devin Booker, they should pursue the opportunity. Especially given two circumstances: The relationship with Karl-Anthony Towns and Russell, and the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a “can’t-miss” prospect in the draft.
Minnesota also parts with Culver, their first round pick last year who is just 21. Culver showed some potential in his rookie season, but in fairness, it’s clear he’ll need time to develop his game.
The Wolves should do this trade if they had the chance because it would pair Devin Booker with Towns, and in this hypothetical the Wolves keep Russell as well.
Minnesota is trying to break through and make the playoffs, and Booker would absolutely help them in that effort. Conversely, a player such as Anthony Edwards or LaMelo Ball can make an impact next season if Minnesota kept the No. 1 pick, but they’re not on Booker’s level.
The future picks are easier to part with because Booker is under contract through 2023-24, so it would be a long term move for Minnesota.
