Why the Milwaukee Bucks Should Do It
Trading a reigning MVP is never something a team wants to do. However, if the Milwaukee Bucks believe Giannis Antetokounmpo will depart in 2021, this offseason would be their best chance to cash in on his trade value.
At No. 2 overall in the 2020 NBA Draft, Milwaukee would have its pick of almost any player. Do they start over with LaMelo Ball? Is Anthony Edwards still on the board? What about James Wiseman or Obi Toppin?
There would be an abundance of unique options for the Bucks with that pick.
They’d acquire Draymond Green, an excellent but undersized defender who brings plenty of versatility. Andrew Wiggins would step into a big role with Antetokounmpo gone, and the Bucks would get three 1st rounders in addition to the No. 2 pick.
From Milwaukee’s point of view, if they were to actually consider trading Antetokounmpo, they should be able to leverage multiple offers against each other. In theory, that’s Milwaukee’s leverage to try to get the best possible offer as they’d enter an inevitable rebuild.
