Why the Atlanta Hawks Should Do It
This would be a chance for the Atlanta Hawks to add a star next to Trae Young, and truly see the type of player he can become with the proper help.
The Hawks need another scorer who can create on his own, and Bradley Beal could step in on day one and make a difference. Relying on Young to run high pick-and-rolls and attack in isolation at such a high frequency isn’t a sustainable strategy for winning in the NBA.
Atlanta would give up two of their former first round picks, in Hunter and Reddish, and they’d also deal the No. 6 pick. But it may be worth it for Beal, who is entering into a two year extension that kicks in after 2020-21. In all, Beal can be under team control through 2023.
Beal is a two-time All-Star who could immediately become the most talented player to play alongside Trae Young. The Hawks know they have a star in Young, but at some point, they may need to invest in a veteran star such as Beal to reach the next level.
