This Pelicans-Rockets blockbuster trade features Russell Westbrook

The New Orleans Pelicans have a new coach in Stan Van Gundy, but their goal for 2021 remains the same as 2020: Make the playoffs and advance. One way to maximize the odds of that happening would be to acquire a star. Could Houston Rockets star Russell Westbrook be a potential option?

Van Gundy is in place because Alvin Gentry’s Pelicans came up short this past year. But what if David Griffin gave Van Gundy a superstar guard to build around? That would certainly change the dynamic down in New Orleans.

It wouldn’t be cheap, but if a player such as Russell Westbrook becomes available, the Pelicans could be an interesting trade partner.

The Rockets face even bigger changes than the Pelicans this offseason, as Stephen Silas is in as head coach, and Daryl Morey now works for the Philadelphia 76ers.

Could the Houston Rockets shake up their star-studded backcourt in an effort to quickly retool? Let’s take a look at a hypothetical trade that would send Russell Westbrook to the New Orleans Pelicans.
