5. Tyrese Haliburton, Guard, Iowa State
Iowa State star Tyrese Haliburton would be a good selection for the Cavs, even though Cleveland has several young guards already.
If Haliburton is available at No. 5, perhaps Cleveland could trade one of its young guards to collect more picks. Or, Cleveland could simply take Haliburton and place him alongside Collin Sexton — with Darius Garland, Kevin Porter Jr. and others as options in the backcourt as well.
As draft chatter increases, though, the latest reports suggest Haliburton may be flying up draft boards.
He has reportedly drawn interest from both the Timberwolves and Warriors. Minnesota and Golden State, of course, hold the No. 1 and No. 2 pick’s ahead of Cleveland at No. 5.
If that sentiment holds all the way until draft night, perhaps Haliburton is off the board when Charlotte picks at No. 3, let alone when Cleveland is placed on the clock at No. 5.
But if Haliburton is available, he could be an important piece of Cleveland’s future moving forward.
