Timberwolves acquire Blake Griffin

Pistons acquire D’Angelo Russell, 2020 first round pick (from Brooklyn via Atlanta)

A very similar deal as the last scenario, except instead of Layman, the Pistons are able to grab a first round pick. It’s just not the first rounder everyone thinks of in the context of Minnesota.

The Wolves also hold a first from Brooklyn, via the Hawks, which slots in at No. 17 overall.

Once again, the Wolves can replace Russell with the No. 1 pick, and Detroit would have Russell and two picks in the top-20.

As far as peripheral pieces go, the Pistons may prefer this deal over some others. Minnesota has young pieces it could offer in addition to Russell, but at No. 17 the Pistons would be able to grab another player on a rookie-scale contract in addition to their own pick at No. 7.
