Trade Package No. 1
Timberwolves acquire Blake Griffin
Pistons acquire D’Angelo Russell, Omari Spellman, Jacob Evans
Speaking of peripheral pieces, the Wolves have a few they could offer in Omari Spellman and Jacob Evans.
Evans, 23, was the Warriors’ first round pick in 2018. Spellman, also 23, was the Hawks’ first round pick in 2018. They were selected just two picks apart, at No. 28 and No. 30, respectively.
In each deal, the Wolves part with Russell instead of Towns. The Pistons — like all teams — would love to have Towns. But if you’re Minnesota, how can you trade Towns, 24, for a player in Griffin coming off an injury?
Perhaps the one way Minnesota could justify parting with Russell is thanks to the fact they landed the No. 1 pick, and could select a replacement next month.
