4. DeMar DeRozan, San Antonio Spurs
DeRozan would be going from one rebuilding team to another in this deal, but he seems like a good fit for the Hawks. The Spurs would be able to acquire the sixth pick in the NBA Draft and add another young player to their core moving forward.
DeRozan is one of the league’s best midrange threats. He can create at will from inside the three-point line. The Hawks, led by Young, have plenty of options who can light it up from deep. DeRozan would give them a slashing player who can get to the rim and play without the ball.
It is likely that DeRozan picks up his $27.7 million player option. If he does, then it puts the Spurs in a good position to trade him.
DeRozan would also add a veteran presence on and off the floor. Thanks to his expiring contract, the Hawks would not have to give up a lot more than their draft pick to acquire him, and might even get something else in return.
