This final hypothetical is even more expanded than the previous versions. The Trail Blazers land Blake Griffin and two future first rounds pick, in 2021 and 2022 respectively.

The Pistons acquire Jusuf Nurkic, Trevor Ariza, Rodney Hood, and Zach Collins. This last hypothetical has the most moving parts, so let’s analyze the biggest components.

Detroit parts with future first round picks, which the Pistons arguably need in their rebuilding state. But this last hypothetical sees Portland part with a majority of its tradable assets, to acquire Griffin.

Portland cannot do that without some sort of added incentive. The Blazers don’t need to take on even more salary in addition to Griffin, so taking on Derrick Rose, for example, isn’t in the cards.

In this last hypothetical, Detroit would essentially be acquiring Nurkic, who’s 26, and Collins, who’s 22 as their new young pieces instead of keeping picks in 2021 and 2022.

The easiest way for Griffin to land with the Blazers is probably through the inclusion of a third team, but if the two teams want to do a deal for Griffin, there would have to be several players changing teams.
