Golden State Warriors Use No. 2 Pick On Veteran
The Golden State Warriors are coming off one of the most dominant runs in recent NBA history. They will be back in the mix of title contention next season with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson making their respective returns to the lineup from injury.
Perhaps the most highly anticipated storyline leading into the NBA Draft involves the Warriors’ plans with the No. 2 pick. There is a chance they trade out of that spot to add a helpful contributor to their team.
Not only do the Warriors hold the No. 2 pick in this year’s NBA Draft, they acquired a protected 2021 first-round selection from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for D’Angelo Russell.
The Warriors have a legitimate opportunity to package both of those valuable draft selections to make an aggressive play for a star. Whether it’s for a player with the $17.2 million trade exception or including Andrew Wiggins in a potential deal, they have options.
Keep in mind, this year’s NBA Draft isn’t nearly as strong as recent classes. That means teams aren’t going to be blowing up the Warriors’ phones trying to get a deal done. However, reasonable options like Aaron Gordon, Marcus Smart, Myles Turner, or OG Anunoby come to mind, to name a few.
