Why The Celtics Should Make This Trade
There is only one major need that the Celtics have at this point in time. That would be finding a true center who can come in, defend the rim, and still be a threat on the offensive end of the court.
James Wiseman would be the pick if the Celtics traded up to the No. 2 overall pick with the Warriors. Standing in at 7-foot-1 and just over 250 pounds, Wiseman would be the answer at center. He can score the ball, rebound, and defend the rim at a high level.
During the three games that he played for Memphis before running into off-the-court issues due to his recruiting, Wiseman averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks per game.
While losing Smart would be disappointing for the Celtics, they don’t need as many wing players as they have. Smart also got into it with Jaylen Brown during Boston’s playoff run.
Making the move to send Smart and the No. 14 pick to the Warriors for Wiseman would be a huge step in the right direction for the Celtics.
