Phoenix Suns
The impressive run the Phoenix Suns pulled off in the NBA Bubble didn’t result in a playoff spot. It was still quite impressive and adding a standout talent could help to take the next step— solidifying their standing as a playoff team in the Western Conference.
The Suns experienced substantial success by going small around Deandre Ayton by having just wings alongside him. That’s not a bad strategy and one that Phoenix could look to replicate next season— hoping it can lead to the same level of success.
The case for making a play for Blake Griffin is that it would add more layers to the Suns’ offense while providing a legitimate short-roll playmaking option. Going with mostly wing shooters around a high pick-and-roll offense poses a threat of being easier to guard come playoff time.
When teams double team Booker, they will need a player that can make decisions and attack after setting the screen. Griffin is able to run four-five pick-and-rolls, knockdown pick-and-pop 3’s, and attack in isolation in addition to being a reliable roll man and relief option near the paint.
The Suns have plenty of intriguing things to offer the Detroit Pistons in a potential trade scenario since they’ve accrued recently drafted prospects during their rebuild.
