Rationale for Philadelphia 76ers
Moving on from Joel Embiid is not something the Philadelphia 76ers should actively be looking to do. He’s an impressive talent that is elite at his position and is under contract for a great value.
The main case that can be made for this particular deal is if the 76ers want to fully commit to building around Ben Simmons and they believe it’s otherwise not advantageous to pair him with Embiid. If that’s the case, then Philadelphia’s perspective would change.
Managing to add some playmaking talents like Caris LeVert and Spencer Dinwiddie would take pressure off Ben Simmons to handle the ball so much. It would also maximize the team’s playmaking capabilities throughout games by having one of them on the court at all times.
There is one massive question that would need to be answered from the 76ers’ perspective. Why would they move Embiid to the Eastern Conference, let alone allow him to formulate a “Big 3” with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving? That would create a superpower in their own division.
So while the trade package on the surface is at least intriguing to think about, the 76ers should pass on that idea when considering what it would bring for the Nets. It would possibly prevent the 76ers from title contention for as long as Brooklyn has that trio.
