Warriors acquire Robert Covington from Houston

Robert Covington fits the Warriors’ style of play. He can knock down three-pointers and he’s the type of versatile defender that head coach Steve Kerr appreciates.

Golden State may be able to use their trade exception to facilitate this deal, which would bring Covington to the Bay Area. Covington may not be in the upper-echelon of superstars in the league, but in fairness to him, he is a proven commodity.

He’s had success in Minnesota, Philadelphia and Houston, and he’d give the Warriors another veteran voice in the locker room. The Warriors, under Lacob, have not been the type of franchise to target players in their early 20’s. It’s part of the reason there is so much intrigue around their No. 2 pick in the 2020 draft.

At 29, Covington is the type of serviceable veteran that fits the profile of what Golden State likes to do.
