Washington Wizards: 3 Bold Predictions for John Wall in 2018-19

John Wall, NBA, Washington Wizards
USA TODAY Sports

He Will Average Over 10 Assists Per Game

Wall has been one of the better distributors in the NBA for most, if not all of his career. For six of his eight NBA seasons, Wall has been among the top 10 in assists per game. On three separate occasions, Wall finished second in the league. If he can stay healthy in 2018-19, there’s no reason why he won’t make that seven of nine seasons.

The Wizards have several players who excel in catch and shoot situations like Bradley Beal and Otto Porter. They also have players like the newly acquired Dwight Howard who will be able to run to the rim for easy scoring opportunities. If John Wall could excel in the pick and roll with players like Ian Mahinmi and Marcin Gortat, imagine what he could accomplish with a player as athletic as Dwight Howard.

Wall averaged 10 assists for three consecutive seasons before injury stopped the streak in 2017-18. He has also been in the top 10 in assist percentage six times, with the percentage being over 40% five times. This means, essentially, that 40 percent of Wall’s passes to teammates resulted in assists.

That level of efficiency suggests that Wall knows how to find his teammates in optimal positions that allow them to score. If he can keep that level of production as his standard, Wall should be among the league leaders in assists for yet another season. If everything goes well, he has a chance to lead the entire league in assists for the first time in his career.
