Indiana Pacers: 3 Takeaways from the 2018 NBA Offseason

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Perimeter Shooting Will Be Upgraded

Doug McDermott was the other major free agency signing for the Pacers. While he may not be a household name, he is one of the top shooters in the league. Many around the league criticized the Pacers for overpaying McDermott on a three-year, $22 million contract, but premier shooting is hard to find.

Last season after being traded to the Dallas Mavericks, McDermott had the best stint of his young career. He averaged 9.0 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. His shooting numbers were impressive at 47.8 percent from the field overall and a sizzling 49.4 percent from the three-point line.

Evans was also a three-point threat in Memphis, shooting 39.9 percent from the three-point line.

Both players are going to provide much-needed perimeter shooting for the Pacers. Surrounding Victor Oladipo with shooters is a recipe for success. Oladipo is a more than capable playmaker after getting into the paint, which is where McDermott will shine.

As far as the bench unit is concerned, both McDermott and Evans will be upgrades for the Pacers. Indiana needed shooting in a big way last season off the bench and they addressed that need this offseason.
