Tyreke Evans Is the No. 2 the Pacers Needed
While Lance Stephenson was a solid playmaker off the bench, he wasn’t consistent enough to be a legitimate No. 2 guy. Tyreke Evans will not only lead the second unit, he will also give the Pacers the second scorer behind Victor Oladipo that Indiana needed.
Kevin Pritchard made it clear that adding another scoring threat and playmaker was the top priority. He also touched on the fact that the Pacers were bad last season, to say the least, when Oladipo was out.
“You have to have two guys who can make plays. We saw last year in the playoffs, with Victor (Oladipo) in the pick and roll, you can take him out of his best thing. They would soft double it. They would hard double it, but they would make him pass it. But if you have two playmakers on the court, with shooting and being able to space, it’s tough to defend. In this league, you have to score points. The best teams are putting up big numbers. You have to go right back at them and be able to outscore them.”

Evans averaged 19.4 points per game to go along with 5.2 assists and 5.1 rebound per game. Those numbers were only put up by seven other players. The names of those players are LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Stephen Curry, Russell Westbrook, DeMarcus Cousins, and Blake Griffin.
He may not end up being the piece that powers the Pacers to the NBA Finals, but he addresses a major need that Indiana had as a No. 2 scorer.
