It was not too long ago that the Clevland Cavaliers were within striking distance of the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference for the NBA Playoffs. Now, riding a three-game losing streak and dropping four out of their last five games, the Cavaliers are in danger of falling into the NBA Play-In Tournament.

Cleveland is now in fifth place in the East after a disastrous road trip. They are only a half-game ahead of the Indiana Pacers and one game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers with three games remaining. One of those contests will come against the Pacers in a game that will go a long way to deciding the seeding in the Eastern Conference.

The next three games and subsequent NBA Playoffs are going to be huge for the future of the Cavaliers. If they suffer another early exit, some major moves could be on the horizon during the offseason.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Cleveland Cavaliers Updates

NBA rumors have swirled about the future of All-Star shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. While owner Dan Gilbert has expressed confidence that Mitchell will remain with the franchise long-term, all other reports indicate the Cavaliers need a deep playoff run for him to stick with the franchise.

Mitchell isn’t the only player that could be under the microscope, as some attention could shift to power forward Evan Mobley. The No. 3 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft has not quite lived up to expectations yet, as his development has been slower than some had hoped.

During a recent appearance on ESPN Cleveland, Brian Windhorst shared some scathing words about Mobley and where he is in his development. To sum things up, Mobley has been disappointing to this point.

“Disappointing, offensively disappointing, he hasn’t become the offensive player they need,” Windhorst said during his appearance on the show.

Coming out of USC, Mobley was hyped up as a potential two-way force with the defensive skills of Anthony Davis and the offensive potential of Chris Bosh. That is the kind of player a franchise would love to build around, but Cleveland may have to consider some changes during the 2024 NBA offseason.

NBA NEWS & SCORES: Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, Cleveland Cavaliers Updates

There have always been discussions about whether the pairing of Mobley and Jarrett Allen was one the team could rely on long-term. It is a similar dilemma that the Pacers faced when they had Domantas Sabonis and Myles Turner sharing the same frontcourt.

Eventually, they made the difficult decision to split them up but they have benefitted from it. The Pacers have gotten back into the playoff picture in the Eastern Conference after flipping Sabonis for Tyrese Haliburton.

Will the Cavaliers have to make a similar decision with Mobley and Allen at some point? Another early exit from the NBA Playoffs would certainly lead to some whispers about changes being needed.
