Even an NBA superstar needs help. No man is an island. We’ve seen some of the best players in league history struggle to win games because the supporting cast around them was just too weak.

In 2023-24, that’s been the case for the Golden State Warriors. Steph Curry isn’t having a career year. He may be slowing down. Still, Curry remains a star-caliber player. Unfortunately, the group around Curry has let him down.

As a result, the Warriors are struggling. Predicting what this team will do at the trade deadline is hard. The Warriors could prioritize the future. Alternatively, they could make one more push for an NBA title.

Could they go the latter route by acquiring Terry Rozier of the Charlotte Hornets?

NBA Trade Proposal: Golden State Warriors Land Charlotte Hornets’ Terry Rozier

Charlotte Hornets Receive: G/F Andrew Wiggins, 2026 First-Round Pick (GSW), 2028 First-Round Pick (Top 5 Protected – GSW)

Golden State Warriors Receive: G Terry Rozier

The Warriors may never win another title with Curry on the roster. If so, we need to give this organization their flowers. The Warriors accomplished the impossible.

This team wasn’t always a juggernaut. The Warriors were largely irrelevant through the 1990s. That trend held early in the 2000s. It took the Warriors a long time to build a champion. Once they’d accomplished that goal, they established a dynasty.

The Hornets would love to do that, but they need to build a winning team first. Unfortunately, this organization has struggled to do that since its inception.

Does this deal get them closer to their goals?

Why The Charlotte Hornets Do The Deal

Not directly, no. The Hornets are already one of the worst teams in the NBA. They’re giving up the best player in this deal by a long shot. By making this trade, the Hornets will get even worse.

Sometimes, you’ve got to take a step backward to take two steps forward. The Hornets mostly have control of their own draft, but otherwise, their collection of draft capital is unimpressive. Following this deal, they’d pick up a pair of valuable assets.

Meanwhile, Wiggins could help this club. He’s having a down year, but if he returns to form, the Hornets could use the solid 3-and-D wing he was two years ago. Still, this trade is mostly about the draft capital for Charlotte.

Should the Warriors part with those picks?

Why The Golden State Warriors Do The Deal

Getting off of Wiggins’ contract is its own benefit. That’s why the Warriors are giving up two picks here. The unprotected one is for Rozier, and the protected one compensates the Hornets for taking on Wiggins’ deal.

That’s a cost worth paying. After all, Rozier is playing like a star in 2023-24. His ability to create offense for himself and his teammates will make the Warriors a much more dangerous team. The defensive attention that he commands may help Curry return to his previous form.

Is there a risk factor here? Certainly, the Warriors could make this deal only to get eliminated early in the playoffs. In that event, they’ll miss this draft capital. Still, with Curry performing at this level, acquiring Rozier gives them a chance – after all, he needs some help.
