Report: Bruce Brown Was Unhappy With Pacers

According to NBA insider John Hollinger of The Athletic, Bruce Brown was unhappy with the Indiana Pacers.

Brown signed a two-year, $45 million contract with the Pacers last offseason in free agency. He was traded to the Toronto Raptors in the blockbuster Pascal Siakam trade.

“And it was an open secret in league circles that Bruce Brown was unhappy in Indiana, and his contract was essentially structured this summer to be a salary match for exactly this type of trade,” Hollinger wrote. “The only thing to haggle over were the details.”

Brown is making $22 million this season. He has a club option worth $23 million for next season.

In 33 games with the Pacers, Brown averaged 12.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.2 blocks while shooting 47.5% from the field, 32.7% from beyond the arc and 81.7% from the free-throw line. Indiana went 19-14 with the Miami product in the lineup.

According to NBA insider Ian Begley of SNY, the New York Knicks are interested in acquiring Brown from the Raptors, who are in rebuild mode. It will be fascinating to see if Toronto keeps Brown or trades the NBA champion.

Brown has career averages of 8.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Denver Nuggets and Pacers while shooting 48.1% overall, 33.9% from 3 and 75.7% from the foul line. The 27-year-old helped the Nuggets win the 2023 championship over the Miami Heat in five games.
