The Chicago Bulls are one of the most-watched teams in the NBA. We don’t mean that people are watching their games – mostly, only Bulls fans are doing that.

Other fans are watching them to see what they might do. They’re perhaps the team that’s most expected to begin rebuilding. If you’re an NBA fan, you know what that means – the Bulls could host a fire sale.

This team could send Zach LaVine, Alex Caruso, DeMar DeRozan, and others to new teams before this year’s deadline.

On the other hand, the Bulls could take a different route. It’s been rumored that this team wants to stay competitive. Could they make a move for a young star instead?

How about Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons?

Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F Cade Cunningham

The Pistons have been drawing attention for the wrong reasons as well. Recently, this team had an opportunity to break their league-worst losing streak against a shorthanded Utah Jazz team. In the end, the Pistons fell short.

Now, they’re barrelling towards the worst losing streak in NBA history. This is getting bleak. The Pistons do not appear to be capable of beating anybody. Recently, it seems to be getting to Cunningham.

That doesn’t mean that the Pistons have to trade Cunningham. If anything, they’re more likely to build around him. Still, it feels like anything is possible in Detroit right now.

Could they send Cunningham to the Bulls?

The Pistons don’t have to trade Cunningham. Still, they do have to make some decisions soon. If the Pistons didn’t put a more competitive group around Cunningham soon, it wouldn’t be surprising if he issued his trade request.

Here, they’re getting ahead of the curve. Granted, it’s a bold move. We understand that. At the same time, the Bulls aren’t coming up empty-handed. They’re landing a pair of unprotected first-round picks here.

They’re also bringing in Patrick Williams. He had a rough start to 2023-24, but recently he’s been turning a corner. He’s still young enough to grow with this core and precisely the type of 3-and-D wing this team is missing.

Should the Bulls part with him?

This is a bold move for the Bulls as well. Some will call it foolhardy. Shouldn’t the Bulls be rebuilding? How can they justify moving this much draft capital?

Well, it would give the Bulls options. They could let DeRozan walk this summer and it would certainly sting less. Here’s the question: if Cunningham hits his ceiling, how far could a core featuring him, LaVine and Caruso travel?

We think they could travel pretty far. The Bulls would need to bring in some shooters and defenders, but they’d already have better spacing than Detroit.

That should help Cunningham, who has been putting up impressive stats recently. He could get people watching the Bulls – for the right reasons this time.
