Joel Embiid had a lot to say after the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Boston Celtics by a close score of 106-103.

While Embiid was happy the Sixers won, he feels like his team still has a lot of work to do.

“We got a long way to go,” Embiid said. “But we’re on the right path. … There’s so many things that could’ve been better today. Taking care of the ball. Missed quite a few shots. Tyrese, he missed a lot of shots that he’s been making. We were not as efficient as we’ve been. But it happens. But then again, I also like the effort and the intensity defensively, just being together, following the game plan.”

Embiid finished with 27 points, nine rebounds, four assists and four steals against the Celtics. The Sixers now have the best record in the Eastern Conference at 6-1.

“New coach, new system, bunch of new guys. Just trying to get everybody up to speed and see what we can do,” Embiid said. “Like I always say, I’ve said it so many times, it doesn’t really matter who’s on the team. I always believe that I have an opportunity to win.”

The Sixers traded James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers for Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, Marcus Morris and draft picks. Philadelphia hasn’t lost since trading Harden, while Los Angeles hasn’t won since acquiring The Beard.

Embiid looks like he’s going to be in the MVP conversation again. The center, who won the MVP Award last season, smiled when he was asked whether the Sixers are being overlooked after the trades the Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks made.

Boston acquired Jrue Holiday, while Milwaukee acquired Damian Lillard.

“I’m not sure. I guess that’s for you guys to figure out,” Embiid said with a smile. “Obviously, those teams made a lot of improvements. Boston, they got a lot better. They look like they’re the best team in the NBA, by far. Good for them. Milwaukee, too.”
