According to NBA insider Logan Murdock of The Ringer, Jordan Poole talked a lot of trash to his Golden State Warriors teammates and the veterans on the team didn’t like it. Poole was punched in the face by Draymond Green before the 2022-23 season started and their relationship was never the same.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr made several attempts to convince Green to take Poole to dinner to smooth over their relationship. However, Green wasn’t interested.

Golden State won 44 games last season and defeated the Sacramento Kings in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in seven games. The Warriors, though, lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round in six games. Poole was traded to the Washington Wizards in the offseason for Chris Paul and Green signed a new contract with the Dubs.

“I kind of been almost preparing for this my entire life,” Poole told Murdock. “I’m coming from a situation of an organization where it’s so much all the time: media, scrutiny, noise, just, 24/7 highest level of basketball. And I passed that class. Four years, you pass that course, you learn so much over those four years. And now we got a new course, we got new classes, we’re enrolled into a new situation. I feel prepped. That’s the best way to put it.”

Poole averaged 20.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists for the Warriors last season. In the Wizards’ preseason win over the New York Knicks on October 18, Poole exploded for 41 points. The NBA champion will have a larger role with the Wizards than he had with the Warriors since he’s not playing with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson anymore.

“I feel like I personally am the right person,” Poole told Murdock of his desire to be the face of the franchise. “In terms of personality, authenticity, positive energy, God-fearing, right? These are the things that you need to get a city behind you. I’m also invested, right? I’m here. I want to be here. I can get everybody else to want to be here. I want to see people come to the games. I want to interact with the fans. I want to interact with the youth.”
