One NBA writer is proposing that the Minnesota Timberwolves acquire Tim Hardaway Jr., Christian Wood and Josh Green from the Dallas Mavericks in a bold trade. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World proposed the following trade idea between the Timberwolves and Mavericks:

Dallas Mavericks Receive: Karl-Anthony Towns

Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: Tim Hardaway Jr., Christian Wood, Josh Green, Olivier-Maxence Porosper, 2027 First-Round Pick

Wood is currently an unrestricted NBA free agent. He appeared in 67 games for the Mavericks last season and averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists while shooting 51.5% from the field, 37.6% from beyond the arc and 77.2% from the free-throw line.

The 27-year-old Wood has career NBA averages of 14.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists with the Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets, Milwaukee Bucks, New Orleans Pelicans, Detroit Pistons, Houston Rockets and Mavericks.

NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Christian Wood, Tim Hardaway Jr., Josh Green, Dallas Mavericks & Minnesota Timberwolves Updates

“Offensive big man Christian Wood can give the Minnesota Timberwolves some of what they got from Karl-Anthony Towns,” Tran wrote in his latest NBA trade column. “Wood is athletic, can score from the 3PT range, and is also a decent rebounder. This past NBA season, Christian Wood averaged 16.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game for the Mavericks. Though he does have defensive issues, it is clear that getting him in a sign-and-trade would be a solid move for the Timberwolves, especially since he would be a good positional fit.”

Hardaway Jr. signed a four-year, $75 million contract with the Mavericks in August 2021. He averaged 14.4 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists last season while shooting 40.1% from the floor, 38.5% from 3 and 77.0% from the free-throw line. The Michigan product will make $17.9 million next season.

Green appeared in 60 games for the Mavericks last season. He averaged 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists while shooting 53.7% overall, 40.2% from 3-point range and 72.3% from the free-throw line.

NBA insiders Tim MacMahon and Jamal Collier of ESPN think Towns is a player who has flown under the radar in free agency but could be a big storyline at the 2024 February trade deadline. It will be fascinating to see if the Timberwolves try to trade Towns during the 2023-24 season.
