New York. It’s one of the biggest cities in the world. Some would say that it’s America’s cultural epicenter. New York City is where the lights are the brightest. It’s where stars go to shine. Who will be the next NBA star to arrive?
That hasn’t necessarily been true for the New York Knicks in recent years. Sure, they’ve been competitive – last season was a complete success. Still, they don’t have an A-list superstar.
That doesn’t mean they won’t land one. The Knicks are frequently linked to just about every star that’s even rumored to become available. Here are three deals to help them land one.
Trade No. 1 — Zach Lavine
Chicago Bulls Receive: G/F RJ Barrett, G/F Evan Fournier, 2026 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2027 First-Round Pick (Swap – NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G/F Zach LaVine
Of course, we don’t know for a fact that Zach LaVine will be available this summer. Sure, there’s speculation. Some think that the Bulls will blow up their roster this summer. Others seem to be less certain. There may be an appetite in Chicago to retool around LaVine.
Time will tell. If the Bulls are rebuilding, the Knicks should give them a call. LaVine could be the shot-creating guard that would take this team to the next level.

With that said, the Knicks shouldn’t put all of their eggs in one basket. If the Bulls aren’t interested in making a deal, they should have other targets in mind. What about another scoring guard?
Trade No. 2 — Donovan Mitchell
Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, G/F Josh Hart, G Immanuel Quickley, 2026 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2030 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: G Donovan Mitchell
We know the Knicks have long been linked to Donovan Mitchell. Last summer, it felt like he was en route to his hometown team. He wasn’t. The Cleveland Cavaliers swooped in and acquired Mitchell. Their first season together was solid, but their playoff outcome was a little disappointing.
Somehow, there are already whispers about Mitchell’s impending departure. It’s been reported that Mitchell wouldn’t be interested in signing an extension with Cleveland. Could they shop him already?

If they choose to, this is a good return. Hart is the wing this team is sorely lacking and Quickley is a makeshift replacement for Mitchell. Throw in three unprotected first-round picks, and this is a good deal for Cleveland.
Meanwhile, Mitchell is a great acquisition for the Knicks – unless they’ve got their eyes on a bigger prize, that is.
Trade No. 3 — Joel Embiid
Philadelphia 76ers Receive: G/F Evan Fournier, C Mitchell Robinson, G Immanuel Quickley, 2024 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2026 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2027 First-Round Pick (Swap – NYK), 2028 First-Round Pick (NYK), 2030 First-Round Pick (NYK)
New York Knicks Receive: C Joel Embiid
You saw this coming. We know you did. The situation in Philadelphia is getting dangerous. James Harden has requested a trade. Meanwhile, it’s been widely suggested that Embiid could follow suit.
Moreover, it’s been suggested that he’d have an eye on New York. If Embiid is pining for a bigger market, and he requests a trade, the Knicks need to pounce on the opportunity.

After all, this is the league’s reigning MVP. There’s not much to analyze here. Embiid is one of the biggest stars in the NBA: Couldn’t you picture him in New York?
