The Los Angeles Lakers get a lot of attention around the NBA. It’s always been that way, and in all likelihood, it always will be. Why? Well, the Lakers play in one of the league’s biggest markets. Arguably, they’ve got the NBA’s richest history. This is the league’s premiere franchise.
As a result, they’ve typically got a superstar player on their roster. This version of the Lakers is no exception. LeBron James is one of the best players in NBA history. This year, Anthony Davis reestablished himself as an elite player as well.
The Lakers have spent this summer trying to build on a Conference Finals appearance. With that said, there are still some quality players that they could target. Here are three we think they should consider.
Killian Hayes
One interesting aspect of the Lakers’ summer is that they’ve looked to get younger. A contending team doesn’t typically target players like Jaxson Hayes or Cam Reddish. Perhaps the Lakers are thinking of James’ age. This team appears to be preparing for the future.
If so, why not buy low on Killian Hayes? Granted, he’s had his struggles in the NBA so far. Still, he’s a solid defender and playmaker. The Lakers could offer him an opportunity to turn his career around.

If they want to, that is. Alternatively, the Lakers may feel that they’ve done enough to bolster their youth movement. Here’s a target that’s on the older side of things.
Christian Wood
We’re not the first to link Christian Wood to the Lakers. In fact, they’re his most frequently rumored suitor. Why wouldn’t they be? The Lakers could use a big man who spaces the floor. Wood can do that. He can also serve as an elite roll man out of pick-and-roll sets due to his high vertical leap.
So, why is such a useful player still on the market? Well, Wood has his issues. There are maturity concerns here, and Wood can be a defensive liability as well.

That’s exactly why he could be affordable for the Lakers. On the other hand, perhaps they don’t want the headache. That would be understandable. This next target is a consummate professional.
Rudy Gay
Will acquiring Rudy Gay revolutionize the Lakers? No. Frankly, it would be difficult for this team to acquire even a starting-caliber player. Sure, they could trade their 2029 or 2030 first-round pick, but the Lakers are already low on draft capital.
If they’re preparing for the future, parting with those picks is problematic. Thus, the Lakers may have to settle on more peripheral players. Why not Gay? He is well past his prime.

However, Gay still plays solid defense and spaces the floor. He’d be a good addition to a Lakers team that’s already primed to contend. Besides, they don’t need the extra attention of a more major signing.
