Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob wants Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson to retire with the franchise. The Dubs have won four NBA championships and played in six Finals in the Curry-Green-Thompson era.
“Certainly, we’d like Steph, Draymond and Klay to retire as Warriors,” Lacob told Madeline Kenney of the Mercury News. “That is my goal, our goal, and I think it’s a good likelihood that’ll happen.”
Curry signed a four-year, $215.4 million extension with the Warriors in August 2021. He can’t become an unrestricted free agent until the summer of 2026. Curry has won two regular-season MVPs and one Finals MVP with the Warriors. He’s the greatest shooter of all time.
Thompson is eligible to sign a contract extension this summer since he’s in the final year of his deal. The All-Star shooting guard signed a five-year, $189.9 million deal with Golden State in July 2019. Thompson missed two seasons in a row due to an ACL and Achilles injury.

Green could have left the Warriors this summer since he was an unrestricted free agent. However, the former Defensive Player of the Year re-signed with Golden State on a four-year, $100 million contract. Green was heavily linked to the Los Angeles Lakers since he has a close relationship with LeBron James, but the Michigan State product was never going to leave Curry and Thompson.
The Warriors lost to the Lakers in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals in six games. Golden State traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards for Chris Paul this summer. The franchise also signed Cory Joseph.

Paul is looking forward to being on the other side of his rivalry with the Warriors. The future Hall of Famer has been “extremely eager” in his first few meetings with Golden State, according to Kendra Andrews of ESPN.
