The Toronto Raptors have expressed exploratory interest in acquiring Tyler Herro from the Miami Heat, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Herro is expected to be traded by the Heat, who are trying to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers. Lillard has demanded that the Blazers trade him to the Heat, but Portland isn’t interested in Herro.
A third team will likely be needed for Lillard to land with the Heat, so Herro will probably be shipped to the third team.
“The Toronto Raptors can also be added to the list of teams that have expressed exploratory interest in acquiring Herro as part of multi-team trade talks between the Blazers and Heat involving Lillard, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.

Herro has removed “Miami Heat guard” from his Twitter bio. The Kentucky product averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists last season while shooting 43.9% from the field, 37.8% from beyond the arc and 93.4% from the free-throw line. He was third on the team in points per game, trailing only Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
The 23-year-old Herro signed a four-year, $120 million rookie contract extension with the Heat in October 2022. The Milwaukee native has career averages of 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 242 games with Miami. He broke his hand in the first round of the 2023 playoffs versus the Milwaukee Bucks and never came back.

Multiple teams are interested in trading at least one first-round pick for Herro. It’s going to be interesting to see where Herro is playing next season. Although the Blazers and Heat haven’t made any progress on a Lillard trade, most people around the NBA believe Lillard will eventually get traded to Miami.
Along with the Raptors, Herro has been linked to the Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Nets.
