The Utah Jazz are signing Philadelphia 76ers restricted NBA free agent Paul Reed to an offer sheet, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
After Reed signs the offer sheet with the Jazz, the Sixers will have 48 hours to match the offer. NBA insider Marc Stein reported on July 7 that Utah was interested in Reed.
“I’ve been advised to keep an eye on Utah as a team that could furnish an offer sheet to Sixers restricted free agent Paul Reed,” Stein wrote. “Can the Jazz (or any team) assemble an offer sheet that dissuades Philadelphia from matching? The Sixers are said to be intent on retaining Reed.”
Reed appeared in 69 games for the Sixers last season. He averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 59.3% from the field and 74.5% from the free-throw line. The 24-year-old was the 58th overall pick in the 2020 draft out of DePaul.

The Sixers lost to the Boston Celtics in the 2023 Eastern Conference Semifinals in seven games. Doc Rivers was fired as head coach and replaced by former Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse, who won the 2019 championship.
Reed has career averages of 3.7 points and 3.1 rebounds in 133 games with the Sixers. It will be fascinating to see where the Orlando, Florida native is playing next season.
While Stein reports that the Sixers want Reed back, they first have to take care of James Harden’s trade request. Harden has opted into his 2023-24 player option with the Sixers and wants to get traded to the Los Angeles Clippers.

After Harden learned about Philadelphia’s plans to not give him a max deal, the 2017-18 MVP opted into his player option and requested a trade. The 10-time All-Star believes he should be compensated fairly after averaging 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 10.7 assists last season while shooting 44.1% from the field, 38.5% from beyond the arc and 86.7% from the free-throw line.
