The Los Angeles Clippers re-engaged the Boston Celtics about acquiring point guard Malcolm Brogdon, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports.
The medical evaluation of Brogdon led to the Clippers pulling out of the three-team trade with the Washington Wizards and Boston Celtics last week. However, it appears Los Angeles still has its eyes on the re-signing Sixth Man of the Year.
“The Clippers nearly satisfied their long-held wishes for better point guard play by landing Malcolm Brogdon in a three-team trade with Boston and Washington before the NBA Draft, but a poor medical evaluation for Brogdon nixed the deal,” Fischer wrote. “Los Angeles even re-engaged Boston about acquiring Brogdon in recent days, sources said.”
Brogdon has a partial tear in the tendon coming out of his right elbow that leads into his forearm. The guard, who wants to remain with the Celtics, is optimistic he won’t need offseason surgery, according to NBA insider Jared Weiss of The Athletic.
“Brogdon, who also happens to be represented by Brown, wants to remain in Boston and is still optimistic he will avoid surgery on the tendon he tore in his left elbow against the Heat, according to sources familiar with Brogdon’s thinking who were granted anonymity because they were not authorized to speak on the record,” Weiss wrote.
