Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
It was a no-brainer for the Cavaliers to sign Max Struss. The team was in dire need of some spacing after all. As a result, that need is no longer as urgent. Does it still exist in any way, shape, or form? It is our opinion that it does.
In terms of movement shooting, the Cavaliers are still lacking. In fact, they don’t have many wings in general, which is a concern. Tim Hardaway Jr. would certainly provide some of this and he can play both the two and the three in a lot of lineups.
During the playoffs, though, the front-court duo of Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley appeared to be too limited to be able to be a long-term solution for this year’s team. Maxi Kleber’s defensive versatility could bring a needed boost.
Last but not least, acquiring an unprotected first is a significant acquisition for this team. As a result, the Cavaliers spent a lot of draft capital to acquire Donovan Mitchell. It will improve their flexibility in the coming years if they are able to get some draft capital back.

JaVale McGee could serve as a stopgap backup big given Allen would be moved in this proposal. While it isn’t the greatest of options, it at least would add size to their center rotation.
