The Memphis Grizzlies have signed Desmond Bane to a five-year, $207 million extension, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Bane would have become a restricted free agent in the summer of 2024 had the Grizzlies not signed him to an extension.
Bane appeared in 58 games for the Grizzlies this past season. He averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.4 assists while shooting 47.9% from the field, 40.8% from beyond the arc and 88.3% from the free-throw line. Memphis won 51 games and was the second seed in the West.
However, the Grizzlies lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2023 playoffs in six games. Bane averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists in the Lakers series while shooting 42.2% overall, 32.0% from 3 and 93.1% from the free-throw line.
Bane was the 30th overall pick in the 2020 draft. The Boston Celtics drafted him out of TCU and traded him to the Grizzlies. Bane has career averages of 16.1 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists.

The other big move the Grizzlies made on day 1 of free agency was signing former MVP Derrick Rose, who played college basketball at Memphis. Ja Morant will miss the first 25 games of next season Tyus Jones was traded to the Washington Wizards, so the Grizzlies needed a point guard.
Rose is no longer a superstar, but he can still score in bunches, pass at a high level and mentor guys — like Morant — in the locker room. The former Chicago Bulls star has career averages of 17.7 points, 3.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists.

Once Morant serves his suspension, the Grizzlies’ Big 3 of Morant, Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr. will look to make some serious noise again. Morant signed a five-year, $194.3 million designated rookie contract extension with Memphis in July 2022. He averaged 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds and 8.1 assists this past season while shooting 46.6% from the field, 30.7% from beyond the arc and 74.8% from the free-throw line.
