Restricted free agent forward Cam Johnson has agreed on a four-year, $108 million deal to stay with the Brooklyn Nets, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets were very interested in Johnson, but the Nets were never going to let him walk.
The Nets acquired Johnson and Mikal Bridges from the Phoneix Suns in the Kevin Durant trade. The 27-year-old Johnson averaged 16.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 25 games with Brooklyn while shooting 46.8% from the field, 37.2% from beyond the arc and 85.1% from the free-throw line.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Cameron Johnson & Brooklyn Nets Updates
Brooklyn got swept by the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2023 playoffs. Johnson told reporters during his end-of-the-season press conference that he wanted to re-sign with the Nets and he was clearly telling the truth.
Mikal Bridges, who has a close relationship with Johnson dating back to being teammates on the Phoenix Suns, was a strong advocate for the Nets re-signing him.
“Oh, yeah, for sure,” Bridges told The Post. “I know a lot of people probably want him on different teams. I just tell him ‘I know money and this and that, but just know where I want you. And you can’t leave your Twin!’
“But he knows. He knows that I never want him to go. And I hope that he stays and they offer him a really good deal. Get my boy paid and go from there.”

The Nets had the ability match any offer sheet that Johnson would have signed elsewhere, making it logical for both sides to agree to a long-term deal together.
