Gabe Vincent is leaving the Miami Heat for the Los Angeles Lakers, according to NBA insider Shams Charania. The undrafted guard is signing a three-year, $33 million contract with the purple and gold.
The Heat wanted to re-sign Vincent, but the Lakers had more money to offer. Vincent is now going from Miami to Los Angeles.
Vincent averaged 9.4 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the Heat during the 2022-23 regular season while shooting 40.2% from the field, 33.4% from beyond the arc and 87.2% from the free-throw line. He started 34 games.
The 27-year-old California native averaged 12.7 points and 3.5 assists in the 2023 playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets. The Heat lost to the Nuggets in the NBA Finals in five games.
NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Gabe Vincent, Miami Heat & Los Angeles Lakers Updates
One NBA general manager labeled Vincent as a potential target for the Lakers back in May. A Western Conference general manager told Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports that Vincent was the kind of player the Lakers needed next to superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
“Gabe Vincent from Miami, he is a free agent and could be had at a decent number,” the GM said. “It is hard to figure where he ranks as a shooter, and the Heat might go out of their way to keep him, but he’s the kind of fit they need there in LA.”

The Lakers lost to the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals in four games. They are expected to re-sign restricted free agents Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. With Vincent in the fold now, though, the futures of D’Angelo Russell and Dennis Schroder become unclear. Both guards are unrestricted free agents.
