Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
As of right now, the Atlanta Hawks are focused solely on clearing their salary cap spending obligations. As a matter of fact, they have already begun the process. This team sent John Collins to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Rudy Gay and a second-round pick.
That’s a pittance. It is clear that at the moment, the Hawks are more concerned about managing their finances than they are about their roster.
It seems reasonable enough to me. The long-term goal of the organization is to build a roster that can compete in the league. As a result, the Hawks will have to clear some cap space in order to accomplish this.
It seems that they are continuing that trend here as well. Beasley’s contract is coming to an end soon. While at the same time, he should also be able to contribute as a strong movement shooter in the future.

If Beasley was to be inserted alongside either Trae Young or Dejounte Murray, the Hawks would be able to stagger their offensive output. As a bonus, they will be able to clear cap space in the process, so that’s a plus.
