Could power forward Jakob Poeltl play for the San Antonio Spurs again and share the court with Victor Wembanyama? It’s possible, according to NBA insider Michael Grange of Sportsnet.

Grange is reporting that the Spurs have inquired about the possibility of reuniting with Poeltl, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on June 30.

“Multiple league sources have said the San Antonio Spurs have inquired about the possibility of a reunion with Poeltl as a veteran center alongside No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama, who they project as a stretch four, at least on offense,” Grange wrote. “After several years of rebuilding in San Antonio, Poeltl made clear last season how much he enjoyed playing on a competitive team again.

“Are the Raptors his best option, or only one? With Wembanyama in the fold, the Spurs could make a jump. ‘Free agency can get a little crazy and unpredictable,” as one source put it. ‘I don’t think Poeltl’s [deal] is as done as people think.'”

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Jakob Poeltl, Victor Wembanyama & San Antonio Spurs Updates

Poeltl played for the Spurs and Toronto Raptors this past season. He averaged 12.5 points, 9.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 72 games while shooting 62.9% from the field and 59.2% from the free-throw line.

The Raptors missed the playoffs this past season and fired head coach Nick Nurse. However, they may not blow up the roster this offseason, according to Grange.

NBA NEWS & RUMORS: Jakob Poeltl, Victor Wembanyama & San Antonio Spurs Updates

Poeltl has career averages of 8.1 points, 6.5 boards and 1.6 assists with the Spurs and Raptors. It will be fascinating to see where the 27-year-old is playing next season. If Poeltl doesn’t re-sign with the Raptors, multiple teams — like the Spurs — are expected to have interest in him.

ESPN is reporting that Poeltl prefers not to be in a rebuilding situation next season.

“However, the amount of activity coming out of the Toronto front office makes it difficult to project what they will do. It’s also not clear whether they will be able to meet the financial demands of center Jakob Poeltl in free agency, who prefers not to be in a rebuilding situation next season, sources told ESPN.”
