The Phoenix Suns are expected to remain active in NBA trade talks after adding Bradley Beal. Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report thinks the Suns could use a trade with the Detroit Pistons to add Bojan Bogdanovic’s shooting.
Bailey proposed the Suns to trade center Deandre Ayton to the Pistons for Bogdanovic and combo guard Alec Burks. With Ayton making such a large salary, perhaps the better use of spending for Phoenix would be to have multiple role players instead of one center.
“One potential avenue for adding depth now might be trading Deandre Ayton,” Bailey wrote. “If they can turn his $32.5 million salary into multiple role players, the Suns would be in better shape. And the Pistons have a pair of veterans in Bojan Bogdanović and Alec Burks who don’t really fit their rebuilding timeline and have salaries that almost match up perfectly with Ayton’s.”
The premise would be for Phoenix to add another floor-spacing threat alongside Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal. However, Bogdanovic has proven to be more capable than just being a 3-point shooter. He can add some necessary dimensions to their offense.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Bojan Bogdanovic, Detroit Pistons & Phoenix Suns Updates
Let’s first start off by saying this trade Bailey proposed would never happen since Ayton didn’t have a good relationship with new Pistons head coach Monty Williams in Phoenix. If the Suns want to acquire Bogdanovic, they will have to find a different path than Bailey came up with.
Bogdanovic averaged 21.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists for the Pistons in 2022-23 while shooting 48.8% from the field, 41.1% from beyond the arc and 88.4% from the free-throw line. The 34-year-old signed a two-year, $39 million extension with Detroit in October 2022. He will have made over $142 million in his NBA career once his current contract ends.

Right now, the Suns have a top-heavy roster with Durant, Booker, Beal and Ayton. They need more depth if they want to win games in the playoffs.
