LeBron James’ future with the Los Angeles Lakers is uncertain after the team’s season-ending loss to the Denver Nuggets on Monday night, raising the possibility that he might opt out of his contract and enter NBA free agency this summer.

When asked about his future after the Game 5 loss against the Nuggets, James simply stated, “I’m not gonna answer that.”

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, James is likely to use his player option for the 2024-25 season to put pressure on the Lakers to enhance their roster.

“I do think LeBron intends to opt out of his contract and become a free agent for the first time since 2018,” Windhorst said. He suggested that James would likely assess the Lakers’ offseason adjustments before making a decision on re-signing.

Despite being 39, James remains a dominant force in the NBA, averaging 25.7 points, 8.3 assists, and 7.3 rebounds per game this season.
