The NBA is a positionless league. That doesn’t mean that teams don’t need to put coherent rosters together.
They do. Simply put, positions don’t matter: skillsets do. A forward can be a playmaker, and a center can be a shooter. As long as you’ve got the right pieces, you’re ok.
With that in mind, having a platoon of non-shooters isn’t optional. Even with a surplus of length, playmaking, and defense, you need to space the floor.
Somebody should probably tell the Orlando Magic. This team already had a core of big, talented playmakers with defensive potential – and very little shooting.
Then, they drafted Anthony Black. At some point, the Magic may have to trade one of their many poor shooting point guards.
