Why The Oklahoma City Thunder Do The Deal 

Like any discussion about the Thunder, this starts with draft capital. 

The Thunder have plenty of it. In fact, they’ve got more of it than any team has in NBA history. It’s not realistic to think this team will use all of their picks to draft and develop young players. 

It’s time to consolidate. That’s what Oklahoma City is doing here. They’re landing an extremely valuable defensive big who can take their team to the next level. 

Sure, they’re losing Dort. He’s solid. At the same time, he’s an unreliable shooter and he’s undersized.

Given how expendable draft capital should be to this organization, the Thunder shouldn’t mind parting with him and a first-rounder to land Capela.
