Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Yes. Frankly, we don’t think the Chicago Bulls can pass on this deal. After all, DeMar DeRozan is aging. He’s not a floor spacer, and he’s not a defender. As big as his name is, he’s not necessarily going to get the Bulls a massive return.
In fact, it might be difficult to find an unprotected first-round pick. If the Bulls are going to do so, they’ll need to target a team that’s desperate to improve. The Lakers may fit that description. Meanwhile this distant unprotected first will be a highly coveted asset around the league.
Finally, taking a flier on Bamba also makes sense for this team. The Bulls still need to add a rim protector, given the limitations displayed by Nikola Vucevic’s athletic limitations holding him to being just a drop coverage big.
Despite limited playing time in his early career, Bamba has shown flashes of having intriguing potential as a shot blocker and could further develop with a consistent, extended role. Of course, the Bulls would have to agree with that being the case.

There is still an upside to Bamba’s offensive game to consider. He also possesses the ability to stretch the floor as a big man. He has improved his shooting mechanics and range, which can be valuable in today’s NBA, where spacing is crucial.
Should the Lakers part with so much for DeRozan?
