The Pelicans are losing the more talented player – or at least, the one with more potential. By contrast, they’re acquiring a player they can rely on. 

Brown is extremely reliable. In fact, he’s been a key piece in an NBA Finals run and an Eastern Conference Finals run in consecutive seasons. The Pelicans have proof of concept that Brown can help them win big. 

He may not have Williamson’s MVP ceiling. Still, the Pelicans would be in a good situation following this deal.

Aside from their star duo of Brown and Brandon Ingram, they’ve got a deep cast of quality young players and a cache of draft picks.
