The Blazers do the deal because it’s better than nothing. 

How much better? Honestly, a fair bit. The Blazers could probably find a use for both of the players they’re receiving here. 

Hartenstein would be the best defensive big on their team from day one. If Jusuf Nurkic doesn’t return to form, he may be a day-one starter. That’s excellent value in any sign-and-trade situation. 

With that said, Portland could use a backup point guard as well. Rose can pilot the second unit while Damian Lillard is resting.
