Forgive our skepticism. The Mavericks do not have the assets to make it happen.
Irving wants James to join the Mavericks in the same sense that we want to fill the world’s biggest mansion with gourmet chocolate and retire in it.
With that said, the Mavericks do have assets. The 10th overall pick in the upcoming draft is an especially appealing one. It feels likely that the Mavericks will use it to make a win-now upgrade.
Meanwhile, the idea of James made sense. The Mavericks could use a strong defensive wing. If they provide some additional playmaking, that’s a huge bonus.
