Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
Speaking of fit…Some won’t like this for the Miami Heat. Don’t they already have their starting center? Isn’t Bam Adebayo one of the best defensive big men in the league? Didn’t Towns just struggle to co-exist with a big?
Sure. On the other hand, Adebayo is not Rudy Gobert. There’s a key distinction between them. Gobert is arguably the best rim protector in the league, while Adebayo hangs his hit hat on versatility.
That should make him a better fit with Towns since the Heat would be able to switch more in ball screen coverage than the Timberwolves do with Gobert. Meanwhile, Towns’ elite floor spacing makes him a clean fit next to Adebayo.
Combined with Jimmy Butler, they’d give the Heat one of the best frontcourt combinations in the NBA. There’d be a lot of ways to make the opposition pay.
