Why The Philadelphia 76ers Do The Deal
It would have been easier to include Tobias Harris in the return. That doesn’t mean it would have been right.
The Sixers can’t justify flipping Maxey and Harris for LaVine. Maxey has been too close to LaVine’s likely level of production. We’d have them losing two starters for the price of one.
This makes more sense. Meanwhile, it’s just barely financially feasible. If the Sixers let all their other free agents walk, they should be able to absorb LaVine even with Harden and Harris on the books.

Meanwhile, this deal makes sense whether Harden is returning or not. If he is, it gives the Sixers a super team.
If he isn’t, it gives them a replacement for the Bearded superstar.
Does it make sense for the Bulls?
