Why The Portland Trail Blazers Do The Deal
The Blazers have struggled to build around Damian Lillard. Arguably, they got sidelined by the CJ McCollum era.
For what it’s worth, the two were one of the most dynamic backcourts in the NBA – offensively, anyway. On the other end of the floor, it was too easy to exploit such a small duo.
So, Portland moved on. Yet, they haven’t managed to land Lillard a co-star yet. If they insist on that co-star being a two-way wing, they’ll pass on this deal.

They shouldn’t. Davis is one of the best two-way players in the NBA. His dominant defense will cover for Lillard’s limitations on that end. Meanwhile, their inside-outside dynamic should be the backbone of a strong offense as well.
This is a good deal for them, even if it means walking away from the draft without a prospect.
