With that said, their outlook is anything but simple following this move. It’s actually rather complicated. That shouldn’t deter them from making the move.
Yes, they’ll have a logjam in their frontcourt. So? The Knicks can make another trade. This deal gives them options.

They could move Julius Randle and pair Davis with Mitchell Robinson. The Knicks would likely field one of the best defenses in the NBA with that pairing.
Alternatively, they could lean into offense by playing Davis at the 5 alongside Julius Randle. The market for Robinson’s services will be robust.
In either event, the Knicks should be a better team next season.
