Some Bulls fans won’t love this deal. Caruso is a fan favorite. They won’t think they’re getting enough back for him.

They will be wrong. As gifted as Caruso is on the defensive end of the floor, he’s limited on the offensive end. Caruso is also 29 and due for a contract extension soon – if the Bulls are rebuilding, they’ve got no reason to keep him.

By contrast, they’re getting some nice pieces for a rebuild in return here. Martin has already flashed a lot of potential as a Rocket. This is one of the best run and jump athletes in the NBA.

Meanwhile, the Bulls land the 20th pick in the upcoming NBA draft here as well. It may not be a lottery pick, but this is a deep class.
