Why The Minnesota Timberwolves Do The Deal
The Wolves may be losing the best player in this deal. Realistically, they’ll be losing the best player in any deal involving Towns.
After all, the Timberwolves are bereft of assets. They won’t be able to package Towns with draft capital to land a better player. In fact, that’s part of why they’re doing this deal.
It has them landing two first-round picks. Having traded four to acquire Gobert, it would be smart to recoup some draft capital this summer.
Meanwhile, this deal also has the Wolves improving their roster balance. Wiggins would join Gobert and McDaniels to form arguably the best defensive frontcourt in basketball.

The Wolves could run their offense through Anthony Edwards in a fast-paced system and make meaningful improvements next season.
Even if it means divorcing their former number-one pick.
